Joel Dennis Feinstein, MD
"The field of gastroenterology encompasses many different organs with unique problems. For me, being able to study multiple organs, including the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine (colon), liver, gallbladder and pancreas, offered the opportunity to use both knowledge and technical skills.
"One of the most exciting components of gastroenterology is the ability to see the cause of a patient’s complaints through specialized, high-tech scopes. This allows me to make a more precise diagnosis. Experience has helped me master the various complexities of different maladies each organ and disease presents. What I enjoy about my practice now are the same things I did 35 years ago – forging relationships with patients and providing state-of-the-art knowledge and technical expertise to enhance their health.
"The style and philosophy of my practice is an individualized personal approach. I spend a significant amount of time listening to the patient as well as educating the patient so that when they leave, they have a clear understanding of how I arrived at their diagnosis and treatment plan. I use drawings and anatomical models to educate patients. I also simplify medical concepts so the patient can feel a degree of sophistication that facilitates their care. My best qualities as a practitioner are an easy demeanor, empathic nature, patience, detail-orientation and excellent patient education. Trust is also paramount. I get to know my patients extremely well and this results in better care and communication and greater trust"
In his free time, Dr. Feinstein enjoys gardening, architecture, history, music, nutrition, exercise, baking, dance and college football, not necessarily in that order.
